Michelle Sindler
Michelle Sindler was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Australian International Disputes Centre in August 2010.
Previously, Michelle was a Partner at Olswang (London, UK) 2008-2009, Partner at Bär & Karrer (Zurich, Switzerland) 2002-2008 and a partner for 12 years at Minter Ellison, one of Australia's largest law firms, where she practised in litigation, arbitration and ADR in Australia and Asia. She has also spent a year working at a leading firm in Paris. After obtaining undergraduate degrees in law and languages from the University of Sydney in 1985, Michelle completed postgraduate legal studies in Sydney (LLM) as well as in Paris. She is also admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and is a qualified mediator. She is a native English and Czech speaker and is also fluent in French and Italian.
Michelle Sindler has extensive experience in managing multi-jurisdictional disputes and has been involved in numerous international arbitration cases as party counsel. She has also acted both as party-appointed arbitrator and chairman in various institutional and ad hoc arbitration proceedings. In recent years, Michelle Sindler's practice has focused on disputes in the pharmaceutical industry, joint ventures, licensing and international sales disputes, and disputes arising out of construction and industrial projects.
Michelle Sindler is an Honorary President of AIJA (International Association of Young Lawyers), having led the organisation from 2000 to 2001. She is a member of ASA (the Swiss Arbitration Association), LCIA, the IBA, IPBA and other professional organisations. She has published and lectured on arbitration and dispute resolution issues in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, Switzerland, and elsewhere.
