Seasons greetings!

It's that time of year, and the team at ADC is looking forward to the festive season and the annual summer break. It has been another momentous year for ADC, and throughout 2018, the ADC team has been working hard to deliver on its mission to advance ADR in Australia and to enhance Australia’s reputation as a regional centre for international commercial arbitration.

As an ADR institution our daily work in promoting dialogue, negotiation and fair resolution, contributes much to improving the lives of individuals, communities, corporations and governments. But at this time of year, it is also important to bring our voice forward in support of others who are in great need.

For the asylum seekers who remain on Nauru and Manus Island, a veritable choir is needed to help make a difference in their lives. In solidarity against their plight, our voices of concern and our practical contributions can make a difference this summer. ADC’s generous interns have suggested some contact points (in the Bulletin below) and I invite you to join me in demonstrating our common compassion by clicking on the links and contributing in a way that resonates with you. Together, we can bring the voice of an ADR choir in advocacy for humane action.

My thanks goes out to everyone who has supported ADC this year. This includes our stellar Training Faculty, Panel and Interns and our new alumni and all the clients who have come to us for rooms and appointment of neutrals in 2018.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and safe travels over the holiday season and I look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Deborah Lockhart,
Chief Executive Officer

The Art of Advocacy, in the spirit of Christmas!

On 3 December 2018, ADC hosted Christmas drinks and seminar on The Art of Advocacy Seminar: Selecting the Right Vintage for the Occasion. The paper, co-presented by Ian Davidson SC and Deborah Lockhart had people honing their listening skills, considering judicial and academic commentary on advocacy, thinking about applying this in the mediation setting, and considering ‘10 Commandments on Advocacy in Mediation’.
