35th Anniversary & ADR Awards Gala Dinner

Dear Friends & Colleagues
|
They say that when one door closes another door opens. I am excited to announce that after 12 years at 1 Castlereagh Street, ADC has relocated to the heart of Sydney’s government and legal district. We will miss our harbour views, but at the same time the team is delighted to call Lockhart Chambers at 233 Macquarie Street our new home.
Many of you will know the legacy of Lockhart Chambers as home to the National Dispute Centre and, on the top floor, the Chambers of Sir Laurence Street. Following his retirement from the bench, Sir Laurence embarked on a stellar career in Alternative Dispute Resolution. At the same time ACDC was established to support Australia’s nascent shift to ADR.
Today, we are transforming the Lower Ground Floor into what may be Australia’s first ADR ‘shopfront’. We hope to contribute in some small part to the storied life of Lockhart Chambers as the heartland of Australian ADR.
ADC is stepping away from its Venue Hire service for the time being. To all our room hire clients, while we have written to you directly, I again extend my warm thanks for your support over the past decade and more, and I look forward to staying in touch.
The move to new premises marks an exciting new direction for ADC in 2022 and beyond. Over the coming months I will keep you updated on a raft of inspiring initiatives.
For now, the big calendar event is ADC’s 35th Anniversary and the Australian ADR Awards Gala Dinner on 31 March 2022.

The Gala has been a Covid-delayed celebration, which makes it more exciting to be gathering in person at the prestigious Australian Golf Club. For the young at heart, the dinner will be followed by an after-party at TATLER, Darlinghurst.
The theme is ‘Emerald on the Green’, and I encourage you step out in style, reconnect with friends and colleagues, bring your family, and join in a glittering evening of celebration.
We are stepping into ‘CPD season’ and ADC’s flagship mediation training, accreditation and refresher courses are available online to help you with both legal and NMAS points. Course dates and registration links are detailed in the Bulletin below.
ADC is known for the quality of its training. But what many people may not realise is that our mediation accreditation program provides a staggering 88% more professional coaching hours than is required under the National Mediation Accreditation Standards. On 3 of the 5 days training participants are collaborating in a small group of three, with a professional mediator-coach guiding their learning the whole way. This means that participants receive 88% more professionally guided, practical experience before sitting their accreditation assessment.
To further assist its participants and help them make the most of their interactive time online, ADC also offers a suite of custom-made multi-media resources designed to support adult-learning before, during and after the courses.
If you are looking for CPD points, seeking to hone your advocacy skills in the context of mediation, or are ready to complete your National Mediation Accreditation, I encourage you to book an ADC course early to avoid missing out.
Stay well.
Kind Regards,
Deborah

ADC has found a new home, and we have also found homes for things we couldn't bring with us.
ADC’s ‘Going Green’ policy includes the minimisation of waste. As part of this policy an important goal in our relocation strategy was to send nothing to landfill. Reusing, recycling and repurposing is best practice for waste minimisation, and environmental sustainability in general.
In addition to being able to sell many items we have been able to find good homes for many others. This includes furniture and equipment made available to a women’s centre in Redfern, a community arts centre on the Central Coast, a DJ looking to organise his vinyls, and many other homes and offices across Sydney and south to Wollongong. In a mid-life pitch for movie fame, some classic ADC furniture and props also went into three film, television and advertising productions at Fox Studios, Sydney.
Thank you to the ADC Associates for all their hard work in sorting, advertising, cold-calling, and calling the goods lift to help move it all! The in-house trolley needed running repairs after all their efforts, and the classic Peugeot was also pressed into service for multiple runs to the recycling centres.
ADC has been advised and aided in its endeavour to be environmentally sustainable by our designer and webmaster, Michael Lockhart. Michael is an exponent in the practice of sustainability. His website Econation has influenced hundreds of thousands of people around the world, informing them about sustainability, and the well-being to people and nature that come from it. Thanks to Michael for all his help.
