It seems trite to say that it has been a big year, but if my straw poll is correct, individually and collectively it has been a BIG year!
Friends and colleagues have shared their personal challenges. Many Australians have suffered a year of floods and fires. Internationally, we have millions of global citizens suffering war, famine, floods and dislocation. Many, many others are fighting for their democratic rights and personal freedoms.
Challenges large and small are regrettably part of the human experience. What strikes me in 2022 is just how many of those out fighting for a better future are our young zoomers, Gen Z. Adolescents and young adults have taken arms against a sea of troubles across the globe and their advocacy for peace, freedom, climate, food security and much, much more is a cause for celebration. Parents and the global village can be proud that they have raised a generation willing to speak-up and step-up to make a difference.
Making a difference in people’s lives is an objective dispute resolvers understand. It is dear to our hearts and part and parcel of what get’s us out of bed to do a job that is often awash with stories that are hard to hear, relationships that are riven and optimism in short supply. Enlivening a sense of optimism and forward momentum is the role of the dispute resolver, just as Gen Z enlivens our hope for a better future.

ADC is proud to continue its small role in encouraging and supporting the young and the older in finding their voices and contributing conflict resolution know-how to making this world a better place.
To my ADC team, I thank them for all their hard work and for kicking so many goals in 2022. After 12 years at Castlereagh St, we began the year with a move to Macquarie St and it has not stopped. A strategic shift away from our old room-hire business has created more opportunities for ADC to do what it does so well. In 2022, our pro-bono programme has expanded further in the South Pacific and SE Asia, our learning and professional development has deepened its reach and our case management team has made more of a difference in commercial Australia.
Congratulations for all you have achieved in 2022. Take a moment to reflect, it will be much more than you imagine.
After a challenging and rewarding year for us all, it is time to revitalise and look forward with optimism to the New Year. ADC will be on its summer break from 22 December – 9 January 2023. I will be back in NZ for the first time since Covid hit and am excited to be spending time with the extended family. You may even find me in the next paddock, in the mosh pit at Rhythm & Alps Music Festival.
I wish you a safe and happy festive season and I look forward to catching up in person in 2023. Save the date for 31 March!
Feliz Navidad
Deborah

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is an umbrella term that includes a range of processes used to de-escalate conflict and resolve disputes. Everyday, thousands of Australian ADR professionals help resolve disputes efficiently, promote access to justice, reduce stress, enhance business productivity and limit the financial impact on taxpayers who fund our Courts and Tribunals. In essence ADR helps us all thrive!

Why Your ADR Award Nominations Matter
|
The Australian ADR Awards celebrate excellence in the industry and the substantial, yet often unsung, contributions of our ADR practitioners to Australian civil society. The Australian ADR Awards bring together the diverse dispute resolution community to recognise current and emerging leaders within legal and corporate sectors, consultant ADR specialists, courts and tribunals, universities, government agencies, local communities and more.
The tenets that underpin ADR and the Awards are immensely attractive to stakeholders and clients. Recognition as a nominee in the Australian ADR Awards speaks to excellence in the field. This commitment to saving time, money, reputations, and stress draws lasting gratitude and respect from clients and other stakeholders.

In 2023, the ADR Awards Gala Dinner is being held at the striking and all new Sydney Modern Project at the Art Gallery of NSW.
Meet with colleagues in celebration, collegiality and conviviality!
The Gala also attracts artistic talent whose values align with the ethos of the ADR Awards. Previous performances have included Australia’s iconic Bangarra Dance Theatre and the acclaimed didgeridoo performer William Barton. Juxtaposed with internationally celebrated performers the Gala draws in brilliant local community and schools’ choirs that herald guests to dinner.
Dynamism, excitement and meaning are all hallmarks of the Australian ADR Awards night of fun. Coupled with great food and wine, the celebration is high-end and high impact.
More to come on ADC’s accommodation partner for 2023.
