Welcome to the mid-year edition of the ADC Bulletin. ADC is in full swing with a wide range of events and training coming up.
Team registrations for the 7th Annual ADC-ICC Asia-Pacific Commercial Mediation Competition closed last week. We are excited to see a record number of teams competing, and this means that we will need more volunteer mediators and judges. This is a great chance to contribute to the development of commercial mediation in the region and support these talented students.
ADC is proud to present its conflict capability series, starting this month with Complaints Handling. The course is designed to equip participants with the skills to respond to complaints more effectively. Register your team, or just you, but do not miss out on this opportunity to level-up your conflict capabilities!
Med-Arb is increasingly being used in Australia and regionally. We invite you to a seminar on 27 July 2023, on the potential for the growth of Med-Arb hybrid models across the Asia Pacific region to accommodate the increasing complexity of cross-border commercial relationships. Held in collaboration with Shanghai, Korea, Hong-Kong and Singapore ADR institutions we explore how cross-cultural mediation can help disputing parties achieve better results.

ADC is thrilled to announce The Voice & ADR seminar on 10 August, featuring Tony McAvoy SC to share his insights on the Federal Government’s Referendum Working Group and Referendum Engagement Group on a First Nation’s Voice to Parliament.
ADC is in Darwin in early August. We are honoured to have The Hon. Chanston Paech MLA, Attorney General of the Northern Territory present the ADR Address of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory on 2 August.
Also in Darwin, and online, in early August, ADC is running its prestigious mediation training and accreditation program. This is an exciting chance to unlock your negotiation skills and step into the world of mediation with industry leaders, including NSW Barrister Mary Walker OAM, and immediate past Chair of the Mediator Standards Board, Bianca Keys.
Don’t forget to register for the Expert Determination Course on 28 September 2023. This is a hybrid event (Sydney/Online) that offers a practical ‘how to’ approach to the role of Expert Determiner. This is a must-attend professional development course for experienced barristers, solicitors and accountants.
Also, in this Bulletin our Thought Leaders share their insights on the opportunities presented by the liberalisation of India’s legal profession and offer a cautionary tale on the bifurcation of arbitral proceedings.
Warm Regards, Deborah

We continue to grieve the loss of our friend and colleague Rory O’Moore. Rory was a great contributor to ADC as a foundation panellist and later as a training coach and assessor. Rory’s remarkable contributions to the law and ADR are remembered in his Obituary by friend and fellow mediator, John McGruther. ADC again extends our deepest condolences to his widow, Helen, his daughters Claire and Kathleen, and all family members and friends.
