It is has been a big start to 2024 for the Australian Disputes Centre and for Australia’s dispute resolution industry. ADC has now had a chance to catch its breath following the resounding success of the inaugural Australian ADR Awards Conference, ADC’s Open-House, and the highly anticipated 8th annual Australian ADR Awards Gala Dinner.
The conference - Pure Gold: The Minting of Australian Dispute Resolution - was held on 21 March 2024, and it felt like an upmarket, dynamic-learning, family affair. Old friends and new from across the dispute resolution industry gathered for a truly enriching experience. From the candid insights of Her Excellency Governor Margaret Beazley AC KC, to esteemed current and former judiciary, practitioners and pracademics we heard from a diverse range of ADR luminaries who emphasised the ever-evolving importance of ADR in today’s dynamic legal landscape. My sincere thanks to all our distinguished presenters and panelists for generously sharing their invaluable experience and insights.
One highlight of the conference was the comprehensive discussion on the Singapore Convention on Mediation led by Dr Rajesh Sharma. The Convention provides a universal framework for the enforcement of international commercial settlement agreements arising from mediation. The convention tackles the challenges faced in the cross-border enforcement of mediated settlements, promoting mediation as an efficient and cost-effective means of resolving international commercial disputes.

The resounding consensus among the delegates was that Australia should strongly consider ratifying the Convention. By embracing this international instrument, Australia would solidify its position as a leader in the field of ADR and enhance its reputation as a trusted and reliable jurisdiction for international commerce. Stay tuned for more details on how our conference delegates contributed to making a real-world difference in advancing Australia’s ratification of this Convention.
The Australian ADR Awards Gala Dinner, held at the prestigious Australian Golf Club, was an evening filled with high energy, laughter, and celebration. It was a true testament to the dedication and excellence of the individuals and organisations who have contributed to the growth and development of ADR in Australia. The atmosphere was electric, with a palpable sense of camaraderie, shared passion and a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication of all those who have played pivotal roles in advancing ADR. It was a celebration of the progress we have made and a reminder of the exciting journey that lies ahead.
Thank you all for your unwavering support and participation in these remarkable events.
The Australian Disputes Centre remains committed to fostering a culture of excellence in ADR and promoting its widespread adoption across diverse sectors. As a committed team we are proud to have hosted such successful Australian ADR Awards events in celebration of your success. We look forward to continuing our efforts in shaping the future of dispute resolution in Australia and beyond.
Warm Regards, Deborah
